Chickasha's seventh-graders, like every other team Western Heights has played this year, had no answer for Darius Young (8) and the Jets rode their young thoroughbred to a 22-6 home win last night. The seventh-grade speedster with the high school moves ran for three touchdowns, spotting his team to a 22-0 lead before sitting out the second half.

He broke the first one late in the first quarter on a 53-yard end-around, slipping and breaking at least four tackles at the corner and finding daylight on great second and third efforts.

After Chickasha's ensuing drive stalled, the Jets got the ball back on downs and he split and sliced through the Chick secondary for a 51-yarder. This time, no one was even able to get a hand on him.

Down 14-0, Chickasha kicked off to open the third quarter and Young picked up some blockers and picked his way eighty yards downfield for a 22-0 lead.

The Jet staff showed some good sportsmanship and sat him the rest of the way.

Chickasha's offense sputtered most of the night but their defense got them fired up late in the third. Cleve Nolden-Bowens popped the ball loose on a vicious hit and Toby Amos covered it for the Chicks at their 39.

Justin McNatt popped loose for a fifteen-yard run then pulled down a pass from Cody Merrick for another 27 yards, dragging three Jet defenders the final seven or eight.

Merrick called his own number for another ten yards, setting the Chicks up on the Jet 14.

A penalty backed them up but Merrick hit Bryan McCracken at the nine then ran it in himself on the keeper to get the Chicks on the board with five minutes left in the game.

The defense dug in again and got the ball back in good field position but the Chick drive stalled and on a fourth-and-twelve from midfield, Merrick unloaded a deep jump ball into double-coverage and Western Heights came down with it.

With just over a minute left, they ran the ball to keep the clock going and picked up a 22-6 win.

Chickasha's seventh graders will be back on the road Monday, traveling to Lawton Tomlinson for a 4:00 kickoff.
