The soccer coaches in the Sooner Athletic Conference think highly of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma women’s soccer team.
The USAO women — coached by Jimmy Hampton — were picked by the coaches to win the SAC in a poll released by the conference on Tuesday.
The Drovers received 77 points in the poll, picking up six first-place votes from the coaches. USAO edged out John Brown University’s 76 points and four first-place votes from the coaches.
USAO and JBU met in the championship of the conference tournament last season after finishing with the same conference record during the regular season. USAO won the tournament title with a 2-0 victory over the Golden Eagles.
Should USAO win the conference during the regular season, it would be the first regular-season title in the conference for USAO women's soccer since 2015. The Drovers went 8-1 in conference play that season.
The Drovers advanced to the national tournament last season, ending their season with a loss to Midland University and a 16-5-1 record.
With the team's success, players were recognized and received honors. Those honors included SAC Freshman of the Year (Emma Rice) and SAC Offensive Player of the Year (Cristina Ramos).
