USAO's Kaytlen Johnson looks to make a play during a previous game in Chickasha.

The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma women’s basketball team started 2020 on a high note.

The USAO women and men traveled to Siloam Springs, Arkansas, on Thursday to take on John Brown University in a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Drover women came away with a 61-46 victory, and the men fell to No. 10 JBU 70-55.

With the 15-point win over JBU on Thursday, USAO moved to 8-4 on the season and 3-1 in the SAC. Following Thursday, USAO sat closely behind three teams with 3-0 conference records.

The Drovers have won six of their last eight games after a 2-2 start to the season.

The Drovers started the season 2-0 before losing two games in a row. They won their next four games after that losing streak and are 2-2 in their last four games.

USAO is not far away from having more than eight victories this season. Three of the team’s four losses are by five points or less.

One of USAO's four losses came in overtime. That overtime loss was a 75-73 loss to one of the top teams in the SAC, Mid-America Christian University.

All eight of USAO's wins have been by double digits.

As for the USAO men, the 70-55 score might be a little deceptive. USAO led by one at halftime in the loss.

The Drovers fell to 6-7 on the season with the loss and are now 1-3 in the SAC.

The two teams will be on the road Thursday in another conference doubleheader. USAO will be in Goodwell to play Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
