OSSAA released its playoff pairings yesterday and the good news is that Chick fans will get to see both teams in first round action. The girls will play at Carl Albert Monday night and the boys will visit McGuinness on Tuesday so fans can come out to support both, at least for this round.

The fourth-place Lady Chicks (4-3, 6-7 overall) will have to upset the Lady Titans at their place since Carl Albert went unbeaten through district 1 and finished with a 12-1 record. Although all first round matches were to have been played on Tuesday, this one will be Monday at 7:00 by mutual agreement.

This will be a gut-check for Jim Hammons' young team…after drubbing winless Capitol Hill, they've lost their last three matches and suffered a 5-0 shutout at home against CA last month. The Titans are unbeaten in district play and have outscored district opponents 37-2.

The winner of this round gets the winner of Woodward/Durant on Friday.

District 2, no doubt, is the toughest district on the west side and probably in the state. The boys finished third in district play with an 5-2 record (11-2 overall) and will travel to McGuinness on Tuesday. The Irish finished second to NW Classen in district 1 with a 6-1 record and are always dangerous at home. The Chicks' last two playoff trips to McGuinness ended their post-seasons.

Most of the injuries and dings have been pretty well healed up but senior defender Wade Hair will be unavailable until round two. Kickoff was scheduled for 7:30 but we've been told it was pushed back to 8:00.

The winner will get the winner of Capitol Hill and the fourth-place team in district 1 on Friday.

The 5A state finals will be hosted this year by Yukon High School on May 13. The full state-wide brackets are now posted on OSSAA's website.
