RUSH SPRINGS – Thursday’s second round of games settled who will play in Saturday’s two Grady County Junior High Tournament championships.

Minco and last year’s runner-up Verden will play in the girls’ championship game and Am-Po’s boys will try to repeat in their title game with Alex.

Minco’s girls slipped by defending champion and top-seed Am-Po 23-22 in one semifinal behind eight-point games from Julie Rice and Hanah Lindsay. Jamie Olson had ten points for the Panthers and Alex Stewart had six.

They’ll face Verden, who hung on for a 27-24 win over Ninnekah in the other semi. Kaitlyn Embrey had a huge 22-point game to carry the Tigers and Dava Ballard and Dahlly Goodson each had eight points for the Owls.

Am-Po’s boys go for a repeat after beating Minco 45-38 in the boys’ semifinals. Jackson had 22 points and Kyler Nichols had 14 for the Panthers and Cade Baade had 19 and Steven Whalen had eight for Minco.

Alex will try to spoil Am-Po’s party. Alex Helm had ten points and Aaron Rogers had eight as the Longhorns beat Verden 43-16 in the other semifinal. David Keil had eight points and Cale Dolch had three for the Tigers.

On the consolation side, Alex’s girls beat Rush Springs 25-14 and Ninnekah’s boys beat Rush Springs’ boys 35-22. Jamie Johnson had seven and Courtney Alcorn had five for the Alex girls and Amber Goodman had five and Katie Jones had four for Rush Springs.

Matt Creel had 13 and Kolton Burton had 12 for Ninnekah and Terry McCartney had ten and Brandon Duke had eight for the Redskins.
