Emme Douglas makes a play on defense against Carnegie on Friday.

A gutsy performance on Friday sent the Minco Lady Bulldogs to the championship game of the Bulldog Classic.

Minco advanced to the championship with a 43-31 victory over the Carnegie Lady Wildcats at Minco High School. Emme Douglas and Cassidy Franklin combined to score 35 of Minco’s 43 points in the victory.

Minco was able to bounce back after a win over Cordell in triple overtime on Thursday. After giving up a 10-point lead in the second half against Cordell, Minco was able to make a stand whenever Carnegie seemed to gain a little momentum.

Carnegie led early, but Minco was able to grab a 12-11 lead after the first quarter. With the teams staying close throughout the second quarter, Douglas drained a 3-point basket to put the Lady Bulldogs up 21-18.

Douglas finished with 21 points and hit two shots from beyond the arc.

The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead to six before Carnegie hit a 3-pointer. Minco held a 26-23 lead at halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs gained a little separation in the third quarter. A Franklin basket put the Lady Bulldogs up by eight, and that was how much they led by entering the fourth quarter.

Carnegie got back to within four points before Minco was able to extend its lead to double digits. Franklin scored with Minco up 35-31, and that started a scoring run to end the game. The Lady Bulldogs scored the game’s final eight points to pick up the 12-point win.

Minco had success at the free-throw line throughout the game. The Lady Bulldogs hit 15 free throws in the victory and had the advantage over its opponent in that category.

Minco is set to play Union City on Monday in the championship game. That game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
