Chickasha senior Leslie Bates has been named to the Oklahoma Coaches' Association All-State golf team.

Bates, a four-time state qualifier, led Larry Merrick's Lady Chicks to a fifth-place finish at the state tournament re-cently, draining a 25-foot putt on 18 for the final shot of her high school career.

“She gave the Tiger Woods fist-pump when the ball went in,” Merrick recalled. “I've never seen her more excited.”

Bates, the team captain this year, has been a leader since her freshman days and as she has matured and developed, so has the team's success.

They finished tenth in her freshman year, eighth in her sophomore year and seventh last season.

“Leslie's a great kid from a great family. She worked very hard to get here and is very deserving,” Merrick said. “She's been our best player all year. She's just so steady.”

Bates will compete on the West team coached by Fairview's David Baldwin. Other area All-Staters include Duncan's Jillian Gregston and Morgan Totty, Maygan Ballard from Pauls Valley and Purcell's Morgan Chambers.

The All-State tournament will be held at Lincoln Park West Golf Course on Monday July 23 and tee of at 10:00 a.m.
