ALEX — The Alex Lady Longhorns got back to their winning ways.
Callyn Carnes and Kaitlyn Goleman combined for 32 points in a 50-36 win over the Maysville Lady Warriors in Alex on Thursday. Alex snapped its losing streak of three games with the victory.
Trailing 2-0 early on in the game, the Lady Longhorns went on a 9-0 scoring run to go up by seven over the Lady Warriors. Kdeebeth Pettijohn’s 3-pointer later on in the first quarter gave Alex a 14-5 lead, and the Lady Longhorns held a 16-8 advantage heading to the second quarter.
Alex’s Kye Heldermon scored the first two points of the second quarter to put her team up by double digits. The Lady Longhorns scored the first 10 points of the period to go up by 18 over the Lady Warriors.
Alex strung together 12 points in a row to take a 26-8 lead over its opponent. The Lady Longhorns went to the second half with a 31-16 lead over Maysville.
After scoring nine points in the first half, Goleman scored five points in the third quarter and gave the Lady Longhorns leads of 34-16 and 36-19 lead over their opponent. Goleman finished the game with 14 points.
Both teams scored nine points in the third quarter, and Carnes began to take over the load on offense for Alex. She scored 12 of the team’s final 14 points to help the Lady Longhorns put together a strong finish.
Maysville was able to cut its deficit to just 10 points in the fourth quarter, but Carnes led a 6-0 run to put Alex up by 16 points. She scored eight points in the final period and ended the game with 18 points to help Alex earn the victory.
The win over Maysville was Alex’s 12th win of the season.
