The Chickasha Lady Chicks opened their tournament with a win on Thursday.
Chickasha's tournament opener took place against U.S. Grant High School at Hampton Field in Chickasha. One goal in each half helped Chickasha earn a 2-0 victory.
Chickasha came out and dominated possession in the first half, making it seem imminent that a goal was coming. The Lady Chicks were able to create opportunities before scoring, including a shot from Makenzie Owens that ended up going straight to the keeper.
Eventually, the Lady Chicks were able to break through. A little more than 15 minutes after the start of the match, Maggie Wilson got the ball and put it past the U.S. Grant keeper to put the Lady Chicks on top.
Chickasha continued to pressure its opponent and got close again before halftime. Chloee Steelman created several problems for the opposing defenders and unleashed a shot that went off the keeper's hands for a corner.
U.S. Grant was able to survive and only trailed 1-0 at half.
It did not take Chickasha long to add an insurance goal in the second half. Not long after the start of the half, Wilson sent the ball to the box on a corner kick. The eventual result was the ball finding the back of the net to put the Lady Chicks up 2-0.
Chickasha is scheduled to play at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
