DUNCAN — The Chickasha Lady Chicks have won two games in a row.
Competing in Duncan’s Southern Oklahoma Invitational, Chickasha moved to 2-1 on the season Saturday with a 55-53 overtime victory over Lawton High School in the consolation championship game. After a 61-49 loss to Southeast in the first round Thursday, Chickasha advanced to the consolation championship with a big win over Douglass on Friday.
Chickasha and Lawton went to overtime tied at 43 points apiece. Chloee Steelman, Leighanne Eaton and Brittney Grissam combined to score all 12 points in overtime to help lead the Lady Chicks to victory.
With Chickasha trailing by three in the overtime period, Eaton was able to score while being fouled and hit a free throw to tie the game. That was followed by a Steelman basket that gave the Lady Chicks the lead.
Chickasha never trailed again after taking the lead. Lawton tied the game at 50 points apiece, but Chickasha was able to take the lead for good.
Chickasha led 55-50 before a late 3-pointer from the Lady Wolverines.
Chickasha’s leading trio combined to score 42 of the team’s 55 points. Grissam and Eaton each had 13 points, and Steelman finished the game with 16 points.
Steelman also helped Chickasha get off to a fast start, scoring the first four points of the game. The Lady Chicks opened the game with an 8-0 scoring run.
Lawton began to work its way back after falling behind 8-0. The Lady Wolverines finished the quarter on a 12-4 run to head to the second in a 12-12 tie.
Chickasha fell behind 17-14 in the second quarter but went on a 6-0 scoring run to take a 20-17 lead. The Lady Chicks trailed 23-22 at halftime.
The Lady Chicks trailed by two late in the game, but Steelman was able to come through again. She delivered the game-tying basket that helped send the game to overtime.
The Lady Chicks will be back in action Tuesday and will face Newcastle at home.
