The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma softball team was able to overcome adversity Saturday.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning against Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Randa Hatter delivered a walk-off two-run home run to keep USAO’s winning streak alive. The 2-1 win at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha was USAO’s 59th win in a row.
The Drovers finished pool play of the conference tournament with a 3-0 record after a pair of 8-0 wins on Thursday.
SAGU’s Casey Waterman pitched a strong seven innings in the loss. The Drovers had just two hits going to the seventh inning, half of their final total.
Kristen Prieto started the rally in the seventh with a single that slammed off the fence in left field. With one out, Hatter stepped up and delivered the game-winning home run. Karlie Velasco and Keely Kingsley had USAO’s other two hits in the game.
SAGU’s only run of the game came on an RBI single in the top half of the fifth inning.
Emily Cerny earned the win as the starting pitcher. She went all seven innings, striking out seven batters. SAGU only had three hits in the game.
USAO is scheduled to play for the conference tournament title Sunday at 1 p.m. at Oklahoma City University.
