The Grady County Tournament is almost here.
The annual tournament will begin Monday and will be hosted by Alex this season. The Amber-Pocasset girls and Minco boys enter this season’s tournament as the defending champions.
The Am-Po girls will be looking to add to their streak of Grady County titles at the tournament. The Lady Panthers have won the past two tournaments, knocking off Rush Springs in both of those title games.
The Minco boys will be looking for their second title in a row after beating Am-Po in last season’s championship game. Minco and Am-Po have faced each other in the championship game the past two seasons and have split those games.
This season’s tournament will also see a new school in the mix. With Oklahoma Christian Academy not in the tournament this season, Lexington is the school set to take that spot.
Two of the teams in the bracket are currently ranked in polls released by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association. Am-Po is ranked eighth in Class 2A, and Lexington is ranked 12th in Class 3A.
On the top half of the bracket, Lexington is scheduled to play Verden at 4 p.m. Monday in the first game of the tournament. Alex and Minco are also on the top half of the bracket and will face each other Tuesday at approximately 6:40 p.m.
On the bottom half of the bracket, Am-Po will face Dibble at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Lady Panthers have a tournament title this season after winning Hinton's tournament.
Ninnekah and Rush Springs are also on the bottom half of the bracket and are scheduled to play each other Monday at approximately 6:40 p.m.
Two of the teams are currently ranked in the OSSAA polls. Minco is ranked fifth in Class 2A, and Am-Po is ranked 17th in Class 2A.
The Minco Bulldogs will begin their title defense Tuesday at approximately 8 p.m. against Rush Springs and are on the top half of the bracket. Minco already has a tournament title this season, winning its own Bulldog Classic in December.
Alex and Lexington are also on the top half of the bracket and will play at approximately 8 p.m. Monday.
Am-Po is on the bottom half of the bracket and will play Dibble at approximately 5:20 p.m. Tuesday. Ninnekah and Verden are also on the bottom half of the bracket and will play each other at approximately 5:20 p.m. Monday.
