MINCO — The Rush Springs Lady Redskins and Amber-Pocasset Lady Panthers picked up wins on the first day of the Grady County Tournament on Monday at Minco High School.
Rush Springs opened tournament play with a 58-44 win over Alex. Am-Po held Verden to single digits in a 77-6 victory.
Rush Springs vs. Alex
The Lady Redskins had balance on offense, and that led to a 39-point first half. Rush Springs got 18 points from Caitlyn Long in the victory.
Rush Springs scored the first eight points of the game, but Alex hung around throughout the quarter. The Lady Longhorns trailed by just seven points when Rush Springs’ Bailey Beard knocked down a 3-pointer at the buzzer, sending the Lady Redskins to the second quarter with a 19-9 lead.
Alex scored the first two points of the second quarter, but Long and Morgan White both hit 3s to extend Rush Springs’ lead. The Lady Redskins hit three treys in the quarter and went to halftime with a 39-19 lead. White ended the game with 13 points.
Alex played tough in the second half, outscoring Rush Springs 25-19. The Lady Longhorns were led by Kdeebeth Pettijohn’s 12 points.
Rush Springs is scheduled to play at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Alex is scheduled to play at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Am-Po vs. Verden
The Lady Panthers scored the first 30 points of the game in their win over the Verden Lady Tigers on Monday. Aubrey Wallace got the scoring started with the first of her two 3-pointers. Verden did not score its first point until the second quarter. Am-Po took a 51-4 lead to the second half of the game.
With a running clock in the second half, Am-Po was able to extend its lead and hold the Lady Tigers to just two points in the final two quarters.
Caleigh Jeffries was just one of several Am-Po players to step up. She ended the game with 12 points.
Am-Po is now set to play at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Verden is scheduled to play at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
