The 2018 season was an interesting one for District B-3.
The district is one that features two area teams in Alex and Cyril. Both of those teams ended up making the playoffs in 2018.
Three of the four playoff teams in the district won a first-round game, and one team won two playoff games.
The Alex Longhorns ended up going 4-1 in district play last season to finish second in the district and earn a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Alex's only district loss came to district champion Snyder on the road.
Following that loss to Snyder, Alex won its final four games of the regular season to clinch second place in the district. The Longhorns extended their playoff streak to 11 seasons in a row and managed to win a playoff game for the sixth season in a row.
Alex won five games in a row before falling to eventual state champion Shattuck in the second round of the postseason to finish the season at 8-4.
During Alex's win streak, the Longhorns won all five games by at least 35 points, including a 64-6 win over Carnegie.
Alex defeated Empire 54-6 in the first round of the playoffs.
Snyder went undefeated in district play and went through the regular season undefeated. Snyder defeated Bray-Doyle in the playoffs before falling to Laverne and ending the season with a record of 10-1 after having a game canceled.
Burns Flat-Dill City finished third in the district and then advanced to the Class B quarterfinals, falling to Wetumka and ending the season at 7-6.
The magazine VYPE placed Snyder and BF-DC at one and two in the B-3 rankings in its 2019 Pigskin Preview and placed the two teams in its class rankings. Alex was placed third in B-3.
The Cyril Pirates were the fourth playoff team from B-3. Cyril fell in the first round of the playoffs and finished the season at 5-6.
Cyril is looking to make the playoffs for the fourth year in a row. The Pirates were placed fifth in the district rankings by VYPE.
