This week is another important one for area football teams.
Area teams are firmly entrenched in district play and are coming off of a week in which they combined to go 7-2. Alex, Minco and Cyril are the three area teams still unbeaten in district play, and Minco is the only area team still without a loss this season.
Chickasha at Elgin
Now 1-3 in District 4A-1 and 3-4 on the season, Chickasha is looking to snap its losing streak of three games with a win over the Elgin Owls on Friday.
Chickasha has lost its last three games after a 3-1 start to the season, losing to Cache, Newcastle and Weatherford. The Fightin' Chicks can match their win total from 2018 with a win over Elgin. Chickasha defeated Elgin in 2018.
As for Elgin, the Owls are 2-2 in 4A-1 and 3-3 on the season. The Owls are coming off of a win over the Anadarko Warriors last week and have already surpassed their win total from last season.
Elgin had a game canceled earlier this season.
The two teams each have two common opponents in Weatherford and Elk City. Both Chickasha and Elgin split the games against those teams.
Cache still sits at the top of 4A-1 with a 4-0 district record, and Clinton and Weatherford are each 3-1 in the district. Clinton owns the head-to-head advantage over Weatherford.
Elgin and Newcastle are each 2-2 in 4A-1. Chickasha and Anadarko are both 1-3 in the district, and Elk City is 0-4.
Minco vs. Christian Heritage Academy
The Minco Bulldogs and Christian Heritage Academy Crusaders are set to meet in an important District A-3 matchup Friday in Minco.
Barring chaos late in the season, Minco and Cashion are on track for an undefeated showdown the final week of the regular season. CHA is looking to cause some of that chaos.
But the Crusaders will have to try and derail a Minco team that has been rolling the past five weeks of the regular season. After opening the season with three single-digit victories, Minco has won its last five games by 20 points or more.
Minco is 8-0 this season and 4-0 in A-3.
CHA is 5-2 this season and has district losses to Crossings Christian and Cashion. The Crusaders are 1-2 in A-3.
CHA is a team that advanced to the Class A title game a season ago, falling to Tonkawa. The Bulldogs defeated the Crusaders 40-34 last season.
Tuttle vs. Blanchard
The annual rivalry between the Tuttle Tigers and Blanchard Lions continues Friday in Tuttle.
Tuttle enters the game 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in District 4A-2. Blanchard is 3-4 this season and 2-2 in 4A-2.
The Tigers bounced back from a loss to Bethany with a strong 46-7 win over McLoud last week. The Tigers have scored 41 points or more in five of their seven games this season.
Blanchard defeated Madill 35-14 last week. The Lions have allowed just 14 points in their three victories, earning shutouts over Anadarko and McLoud.
Tuttle won last season's meeting between the two teams.
Alex at Carnegie
The Alex Longhorns have been dominant in their past four games and in their five victories. Alex is 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in District B-3 after a 60-14 win over Geary last week.
The Longhorns travel to 1-6 Carnegie on Friday and are looking for another big victory.
The Longhorns have outscored their last four opponents 238-38. The 14 points to Geary are the most points the Longhorns have allowed during this current streak.
Carnegie is 0-2 in district play, and five of its losses have been by double digits.
By the end of the night, Alex could be one of just two teams in B-3 without a district loss.
The Cyril Pirates host Burns Flat-Dill City on Friday. The two teams enter the game 2-0 in District B-3.
BF-DC is 6-1 this season, and Cyril has a 5-2 record.
Rush Springs will look to hand Ringling its first district loss of the season Friday at Ringling. Rush Springs is 4-3 this season and 1-2 in A-4.
Ringling is 3-0 in A-4 and 5-1 on the season.
Dibble is 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in A-4 and hosts Healdton on Friday. Healdton is 2-4 on the season and 1-3 in the district.
In District 3A-1, Bridge Creek is at Perkins-Tryon this week. Bridge Creek is 1-3 in 3A-1 and 2-5 on the season.
P-T is 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in the district.
