A dominant win over Empire last week extended Alex's streak of seasons with at least one playoff victory.
The Alex Longhorns hosted Empire last week in a rematch from the regular season, coming away with a 52-6 victory over the Bulldogs. Alex has now won at least one playoff game seven seasons in a row.
Now in the second round of the Class B playoffs, the Longhorns will have another rematch from the regular season Friday. Alex will host the Laverne Tigers at 7 p.m. and will look to avenge its loss from its season opener.
Laverne defeated Alex 28-22 earlier this season. The point totals from that game are season lows for both teams.
Alex enters the matchup playing winning football, having won its last eight games. Alex is now 9-2 on the season and has won each of its nine games by double digits.
Alex has averaged almost 60 points per game in its nine victories and has held eight of those nine opponents to 14 points or less. On the season, Alex is averaging 53.9 points per game and allowing less than 20 points per game.
While Alex eventually won District B-3, Laverne ended up finishing second in B-1 behind undefeated Shattuck. Like Alex, the Tigers also enter the matchup with a 9-2 record.
Laverne lost to Burns Flat-Dill City in the regular season, and Alex defeated the Eagles for the B-3 title.
Laverne has won its last three games and defeated Ringwood 42-12 in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers are allowing a little more than 21 points per game this season and averaging 50.7 points per game.
