Chickasha's Steven Mays scores during the team's game in Bethany on Saturday.

BETHANY — A long scoreless stretch to start Saturday's game was too much for the Chickasha Fightin’ Chicks to overcome.

Chickasha fell in a 23-0 hole during the first half in Bethany and fell to the Bethany Bronchos by 14 points. Class 4A No. 8 Bethany picked up a 47-33 home victory over the Fightin’ Chicks.

Multiple 3-pointers in the first quarter helped the Bronchos build their lead early in the game. Bethany led 15-0 after the first quarter and scored the first eight points of the second quarter.

But Chickasha was able to put together a strong stretch of play as the first half started to wind down. Hasian Burdex scored Chickasha’s first four points, and the Fightin’ Chicks finished the first half on a 9-2 run to make the score 25-9 at halftime.

Steven Mays provided the final two points of the half and ended the game with six points for the Fightin’ Chicks. Ma’lek Murphy and Xavier Copeland-McFadden also scored during Chickasha’s scoring run to end the half.

Bethany started the second half on another run, scoring the first eight points of the third quarter before Copeland-McFadden hit a pair of free throws for Chickasha. Copeland-McFadden scored six of the team’s eight points in the third quarter and scored 10 of his 11 points in the second half of the loss.

After going to the fourth quarter down 41-17, the Fightin’ Chicks won the fourth quarter 16-6.

The Fightin’ Chicks will host Blanchard on Tuesday.
