Both the district A-4 and B-2 races are winding their way down to the expected finishes, with two slugging it out in week ten for an unbeaten season and three in a dogfight for the remaining two playoff spots.

Washington and Rush Springs are at a different level in A-4 and should stay unbeaten until week ten when the Redskins travel to Warrior country for the grand finale. They'll finish one and two based on the outcome of that matchup. After that, the waters are as muddy as an Oklahoma fishin' hole.

Stratford, sitting in third this week at 4-1, will be involved with both, on the road to Joe Tunnell this week and hosting Washington in week nine. The Bulldogs will give both a game but don't have the horses to stay with either. Their week ten game hosting Wayne is a tossup and will hinge on how Stratford rebounds from those two tough games. Wayne is currently in fourth at 3-2 and will get one sure win this week at Konawa before finishing on the road at Minco and at Stratford. Both of those could go either way. Dibble and Minco are tied for fifth, making their matchup this week at Dibble critical for both. The Demons will pick up wins over Konawa and Wewoka in weeks nine and ten, making this week even more of a “must-win” for Minco.

After Dibble, the 'Dawgs finish out hosting Wayne and Maysville. Wayne is another tossup and Maysville should allow Minco to finish out with a win, no matter what the playoff picture ends up looking like.

Over in eight-man, District B-2 is shaking out almost the same way.

Burns Flat and Fox are still one and two, both undefeated but with Fox one district game shy at 4-0. They'll hook up at Fox in week ten and could both still be unbeaten for that one.

Fox will be at Tipton this week then host Bray. They should win both games but Alex could throw a monkey-wrench into the mix at the top this Thursday. The Longhorns have beaten Bray and Cyril in the last two weeks to separate and put themselves in third at 4-1. They are peaking right now and could pull off the upset this week at Burns Flat if they play well and get a couple of breaks. After that they'll host Tipton for what should be a sure win then host Duke in a non-district walkover in week ten. Cyril has the edge for the fourth spot, hosting Central (Marlow) this week and traveling to Mt. View in week ten. Bray has Central in week ten but has to travel to Fox in week nine, which will probably spoil their playoff plans.

With three weeks left, the top two spots in both races are a lock and the other two are still up in the air. And, as it should be, the final placements in both won't be decided until the final week of the regular season is over.

We'll look at this week's area matchups more closely in Wednesday's Express-Star.
