The Chickasha boys' golf team won their first tournament of the year and their first team title in many years Monday when they won the Anadarko Tournament at Ft. Cobb. The team scored a 299, taking four of the five scores posted to win by 14 shots over runner-up Lawton High. The State Park Course at Ft. Cobb is known for its very tight and treacherous back nine which can be very intimidating when combined with strong winds.

The team was led by its three seniors posting low numbers to garner first, third and fourth place individual finishes. Matt Charlson took medalist honors posting a 72. This tied him for first place with Justin Jang of Lawton high and the two had to settle it in a playoff on the course. Both players made good up and downs on the first hole for pars. Matt then won the title on the second hole when he sank his par putt after Jang missed his.

Max Stewart placed third with a 73 and Jacoby Jarnagin placed fourth with a 74. Max stayed steady most of the day, getting up and down for a lot of pars. Jacoby had a little more excitement in his rounds with a couple of bad holes then coming back with some great chip-ins on some of the other holes.

These three seniors are all four-year starters and have had some good tournaments throughout their careers but have lacked consistency in their younger years. It was good to not only see them playing well but being consistent in their first three tournaments. That is what will put them among the tops in the state tournament at the end of the year.

Freshman Braden Meadows just missed placing, posting a score of 80, which is a good score for him on this course at this time of year.

Andrew Ford shot a 94 as the fifth man on the team. Both Braden and Andrew have been working on their short game to shave a few strokes off their game. By the end of the year they will be really important to how and where we finish at state.

The team will compete at the Trails Golf Course in the Norman Invitational on Monday, April 3.
