The host Fightin' Chicks lost both of their Washita Valley Classic pool play games on Friday but still made it into Saturday's bracket rounds.

After Woodward beat Altus 5-1 in game one, the Bulldogs got a 5-4 win over the Chicks in game two.

Altus scored three unearned runs in their first at bat on three Chick errors and retired ten straight before Kyle Hernandez reached on an error. He was left stranded but the hosts broke through with a pair of runs on two hits in the top of the fifth.

Second baseman Darren Green worked a walk and stole second base. Pitcher Chris Muchmore's single to left-center moved him to third and Muchmore alertly advanced to second as the Dawgs took a shot at a play at third.

Catcher Blake Taylor then ripped a single to medium right-center to score Green. Again Altus went to third for Muchmore but the throw went into a dead ball area and Muchmore was awarded home.

Chickasha took a 4-3 lead in the sixth on Heath Wilda's RBI double and an error on Kyle King's ground ball but the bobble-bug bit them again in the Altus sixth. Three more errors allowed two runs in for a 5-4 Altus lead and Chickasha couldn't respond in their final at-bat.

McGuiness and Marlow battled in game three but the Irish scored twice in the seventh to prevail 8-7. The win locked in the top spot in their pool for McGuiness.

Chickasha played the courteous host in game four, spotting Lawton Ike five runs in the first three innings before sending eight hitters up and exploding for five hits and four runs in the fourth.

Heath Wilda and Evan Blasingame singled then Darren Green's sacrifice fly to center scored Wilda, Tylor Lee's single to right brought in Blasingame and Green and Blake Taylor's single scored Lee for the fourth run.

Ike responded with two runs on three hits in the fourth to extend, though, and the score held. Chickasha threatened in the seventh, getting runners to first and second before Taylor flied out to right to end the inning.

The other two games were moved to Anadarko. Leedey beat El Reno 3-1 then Anadarko beat Lawton Ike 8-0.

Altus and Western Heights will finish up pool play Saturday morning then the bracket games will start after lunch.

Anadarko and the Chicks will play at 2:00, Duncan and Altus will follow at 4:30 and the championship game will be at 7:30 between Leedey and McGuiness. We'll have the wrap in Monday's edition.
