Several swimmers will represent Chickasha swimming at the upcoming Class 5A state meet in Jenks.

Several swimmers will be representing Chickasha swimming at the upcoming Class 5A state competition in Jenks.

Chickasha swimmers qualified for state in three individual events and three relay events at the Class 5A regional meet in Edmond last week. The state meet will take place at the Jenks Aquatic Center on Feb. 21 and Feb. 22.

According to swim coach Yvonne Kennedy, the Chickasha swim program features swimmers with different amounts of experience, including multiple first-year swimmers.

Kaleb Shearer qualified for state in two individual events. His times in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle were good enough to advance to the state competition.

Shearer improved on his time of 2 minutes, 21.05 seconds from the 200 free preliminaries and ended up with the 13th best time at the regional — No. 5 in the B final. He finished the event with a time of 2:16.53.

Shearer also improved on his preliminary time in the 500, finishing No. 11 at the regional and third in the B final. After a time of 6:25.72 in the preliminaries, Shearer ended the finals with a time of 6:18.87 and managed to qualify for state in a second event.

Jennifer Veach qualified for state in two events, one of which was an individual event. She qualified for state in the 200-yard IM for Chickasha, finishing at No. 6 in the B final and in the top 14 of the event at the regional.

After finishing with a time of 3:01.39 in the preliminaries, Veach ended the finals with a time of 2:59.65.

The Chickasha girls had two relay teams advance to the state meet, and the boys had one relay team advance to state. The Chickasha girls are sending relay teams in the 200 free and 400 free, and the boys had a team qualify in the 400 free.

The team of Breanna Cason, Abigail Hood, Avery Jones and Veach finished eighth in the 200 relay at the regional. The team ended up with a time of 2:14.34.

The team of Cason, Hood, Jones and Alexandria Sherman finished at No. 10 in the 400 relay at the regional and had a time good enough to qualify for state. The team finished the race with a time of 5:31.56.

For the boys, the team of Thunder Bowman, Nathan Gillis, Gavin Johnston and Dao Hong Lim finished No. 9 at the regional and qualified for the state meet with a time of 4:50.35.
