The Chickasha Fightin' Chicks and Weatherford Eagles met in Chickasha on Thursday.
Following a 29-10 loss to the Eagles, Chickasha is now 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in district play. The Eagles moved to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in district play with the victory.
Chickasha's only touchdown came on its penultimate offensive possession of the game. A long pass completion and penalty set the Chicks up deep in Weatherford territory.
The Chicks changed things up to score their only touchdown of the game. Austin Albright — who has played multiple positions on offense this season — threw a touchdown pass to Harrison Funderburk late in the game. The extra point made the score 29-10 in favor of the Eagles.
Funderburk caught three passes for the Chicks in the loss. Jordan Jackson led the team in receptions with six in the game.
Chickasha recovered the onside kick after the touchdown, but the Eagles were able to come up with a stop and then end the game.
Before the events of the fourth quarter, Weatherford got on the scoreboard first in the first quarter. Weatherford held a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.
Chickasha cut its deficit to four in the second quarter. Quarterback Cayss Lowery helped the offense move the ball down the field with his mobility, and his lengthy run set the Chicks up at the Weatherford 5-yard line.
Chickasha was unable to get the ball in the end zone, but Juan DeLeon added a field goal to make the score 7-3.
Weatherford was able to respond with a touchdown and led 14-3 at halftime. The Eagles took up a good amount of time on their first drive of the third quarter and eventually grabbed a 22-3 lead.
Weatherford led 29-3 after three quarters of play.
The Fightin' Chicks will look to snap their losing streak Friday against the Elgin Owls. Chickasha is scheduled to travel to Elgin for that game.
Elgin is 2-2 in district play after a win over Anadarko.
