Tandra King, whether on purpose or not, showed Anadarko what it is missing on Saturday.
The senior point-guard led No. 6 Chickasha (17-4) to a 57-43 win against the Lady Warriors in her first game back in Anadarko (15-7) since transferring last summer. King finished with 19 points, five assists and four steals.
Her fast-paced interventions provided balance to the patience Chickasha needed to overcome a high-pressure, aggressive Anadarko defense. Similar shot-stopping styles from both teams bogged down the second half, but the Lady Chicks had already done enough damage by then.
Senior Taylor Sylvester was central to Chickasha's defensive effort. Along with eight points, Sylvester racked up 9 rebounds and five blocks. Two of those were big in the first half and came against Anadarko senior Aaliyah White.
The pair were locked in a heated battle all night, and White finished with a team-high 11 points.
King helped Chickasha establish an early lead by first taking a steal for a quick layup plus the foul shot. The next time down, she found junior Karissa Duke in the corner for a three pointer that put the Lady Chicks up by six in the first quarter.
She then led a 15-6 second quarter, and Chickasha shut down service at the other basket.
Fouls began to rack up for both teams in the third quarter. Seven of White's 11 points came from the charity stripe, and both Sylvester and Chickasha substitute Meredith Noland reached four fouls.
When Chickasha slowed down the game, senior Dominique Golightly revved up. A pair of three pointers and an increased presence in the lane later on helped her to 11 points and six rebounds.
