Am-Po

Amber-Pocasset's Maddie Boswell looks to make a play during the team's win at Minco earlier this season.

Several area basketball teams will start back up this week.

Of the teams scheduled to take the court Friday, eight of those teams (boys and girls) will face each other in area matchups. Amber-Pocasset is at Verden, and Alex is at Minco. Three of the eight teams competing in area matchups are ranked, and one of the eight teams is still undefeated this season.

The Amber-Pocasset Lady Panthers will start play again as the seventh-ranked team in Class 2A in the most recent Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association poll. At 8-2, the Lady Panthers have won their last two games by a combined score of 120-52.

The Am-Po boys are also ranked, coming in at No. 20 in the most recent Class 2A poll released by the OSSAA. The Panthers are 7-3 on the season after a loss to Minco before heading to the break.

Both Verden teams are unranked in the OSSAA polls.

In another area showdown Friday, the undefeated Alex Lady Longhorns will face the Minco Lady Bulldogs on the road. Alex enters the matchup unranked but does own a 6-0 record this season.

Minco is also unranked but also has a winning record so far this season. The Lady Bulldogs are 5-3.

The Minco boys are currently ranked fifth in Class 2A. The Bulldogs entered the Cornerstone Bank Mustang Holiday Classic last week with an 8-0 record on the season and went 1-2 against three teams in Class 6A.

Minco’s win was an overtime victory against the Westmoore Jaguars.

The Alex boys are 4-2 on the season.
