Alex High School will soon be hosting its annual Longhorn Classic basketball tournament.

The 2020 edition tournament will go from Jan. 9 to Jan. 11 and features one other area school in the brackets that have been released. Ninnekah will also be participating in the tournament.

The Alex Lady Longhorns will take on Wayne in their first game of the tournament at approximately 7 p.m.  Jan. 9. The Lady Longhorns will play Stratford or Chattanooga in their second game of the tournament.

The Lady Longhorns are off to a successful start this season. They have played six games so far this season and have a 6-0 record. Alex defeated Fletcher 38-29 in its final game before heading to the break.

The Ninnekah Lady Owls are on the top half of the bracket, and Alex is on the bottom half. The Lady Owls will face Union City at approximately 1:40 p.m. Jan. 9. They will face Mountain View-Gotebo or Calumet in their second game of the tournament.

The Lady Owls already have one win over Union City this season. The Lady Owls have a 7-3 record and have played in tournament action this season.

The Lady Owls finished second at Binger-Oney’s tournament after a 52-51 loss to a ranked Cyril squad.

The Alex boys will take on Chattanooga at approximately 8:20 p.m. Jan. 9. The Longhorns — on the top half of the bracket — will see Calumet or Mountain View-Gotebo in their second game of the tournament.

The Longhorns are 4-2 on the season.

The Ninnekah boys will play Union City at approximately 3 p.m. Jan. 9. The Owls will play Stratford or Wayne in their second game of the tournament and are on the bottom half of the bracket.

The Owls are 6-4 on the season and also have a win over Union City, like the Lady Owls. Ninnekah also finished second at Binger-Oney’s tournament, losing to Cyril in the championship game.
