Three area teams competed at their respective state tournaments last week.
Amber-Pocasset softball, Cyril softball and Cement volleyball advanced to their respective state tournaments. Am-Po was the only team to advance to the semifinals.
Am-Po swept through its regional tournament, defeating Texhoma-Goodwell twice and Hartshorne once to advance to the Class 2A state tournament. Am-Po’s last two wins of the regional tournament were shutouts.
The Lady Panthers were ranked No. 4 in the state tournament bracket and opened the tournament against No. 5 Oktaha. The Lady Panthers defeated Oktaha 7-1 to advance to the Class 2A semifinals.
Am-Po faced No. 1 Silo in the semifinals, ending its season with a 7-6 loss to the eventual state champion. Am-Po played Silo closer than any other team in the state tournament.
The Lady Panthers have been to state in the fall three seasons in a row and have won at least one game at state each of the past three seasons, winning three games and a state title in Class A in 2018. Am-Po has a 5-2 record at state the past three seasons.
In Class B, the Cyril Lady Pirates extended their streak of appearances at state. The Lady Pirates swept Geronimo in district play and then went 3-0 in regional play. The Lady Pirates suffered a 5-0 loss to Vici in the first round of the state tournament.
As for Cement volleyball, the Lady Bulldogs went through their regional tournament without dropping a set to advance to the Class 3A state tournament in Shawnee. It was the third season in a row that Cement advanced to state.
Cement fell to top-ranked Metro Christian Academy in the first round of the state tournament. Metro Christian won the Class 3A title.
