ALEX — The Alex Longhorns were dominant from start to finish.
The Longhorns never trailed and held a 31-point halftime lead over the Maysville Warriors on Thursday in Alex. Four Longhorn players scored in double figures during the team’s 67-37 victory at home, snapping a losing streak of two games.
Alex opened the first quarter by scoring nine of the game’s first 11 points and built a double-digit lead by the end of the period. Kash Boatwright's 3-pointer put the Longhorns up by 10, and Chase Byrne’s 3-pointer gave Alex a 17-4 lead after the first quarter.
Byrne started the second quarter with another 3-pointer, and the Longhorns built a 27-4 lead by scoring the quarter’s first 10 points. Alex went up 27-4 after going on an 18-0 scoring run.
Byrne ended up making five long-range shots in the victory and finished the game with 15 points. Twelve of his 15 points came in the first two quarters of the game.
Alex ended up topping its 17 points in the first quarter with 27 points in the second. Both of those totals were more than Maysville’s point total in the entire first half.
The Longhorns went to the second half with a 44-13 lead, and three of their double-digit scorers reached that accomplishment in the first half. The fourth double-digit scorer reached the 10-point mark in the third quarter.
Along with Byrne’s 15 points, Tatton Anderson scored 13 points in the victory. Brycen Otey and Boatwright each had 10 points for the Longhorns.
The win over Maysville was Alex’s ninth win of the season.
