The Summer Reading Program is a national annual program designed to keep students engaged during times when school is not in session. Studies show that participation in the Summer Reading Program improves reading skills and helps students avoid learning loss during the “Summer Slide.”

The 2015 Summer Reading Program theme is “Every Hero Has A Story.”

Participants will receive rewards for reading and keeping track of their reading throughout the summer. The library will offer a variety of programs that will include books about superheroes, local heroes and heroes from history.

Programs will also include games, crafts and other activities.

Programs will take place every Thursday starting June 4th and run throughout June and July. These programs will be Thursdays at 10:00AM for kids 6 to 11 and at 2:00 PM for ages 12 and up. Participants do not have to attend these programs in order to be eligible for prizes.

Interested kids can come to the library to register for the program and will be given a reading log to track the time they read over the summer.

This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the Friends of the Chickasha Public Library.

Please feel free to call the library at 222-6075 with any questions.
