Duncan Police on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of one and further investigation into a case from Monday that left one child not breathing.

According to reports from Duncan Police, the department received a 911 call around 10:49 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 19 in regards to a three-year-old child who was not breathing at Elm Terrace Apartments, located in the 200 block of east Elm Street.

Reports show that when officers and medical responders arrived, “a young boy was transported to Duncan Regional Hospital for treatment and then airlifted to OU Health University of Oklahoma Medical Center’s Trauma center.”

City documents show police considered injuries to the child questionable and inconsistent with the reported accident. As a result, officers interviewed Ryan Towell, identified as the boyfriend of the mother to the child.

“Towell advised he had pushed the child down,” documents state, “at which time the child struck his head.”

The mother, reports show, told officers the child became sick and threw up. When the 911 call came in from the home, the child was not breathing, according to information from the city.

Towell, documents show, was arrested on Monday, Sept. 19 and placed in the Stephens County Jail. Charges remain pending at this time.

Duncan Police reported the child’s condition, as of 11:59 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 as “deteriorated.”

The investigation remains ongoing, according to Duncan Police, and other individuals may potentially be involved and additional charges may be filed.
