A new house bill looks at eliminating a tax on estates established before Jan. 1, 2010 this session.
House Bill 1327, authored by State Rep. David Perryman addressed a section of tax law that was missed in a previous piece of legislation that eliminates state taxes and liens on estates established after Jan. 1, 2010.
“Just because they did away with them for all estates past that date, doesn’t mean there are not estate taxes established prior to Jan. 1, 2010,” he said. “Sometimes, someone will die and nothing will happen to the estate for 10 to 20 years. That often causes a little problem.”
Perryman said a real estate title group requested he try and help families of people who owned property and died prior to Jan. 1, 2010.
House Bill 1327 will have its first reading Feb.6.
