The summer months are long for hungry kids who depend on school meals.
Between May 28 and Aug. 9, any child 18 and under can get a free meal and a snack at the Chickasha YMCA, located at 724 W. Chickasha Ave.
Monday through Friday, lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a snack is provided between 2:30 p.m. and 3: 30 p.m.
This service requires no ID and a parent does not have to be present. There will be a designated eating area at the Chickasha YMCA.
The Chickasha YMCA provides this service through the Regional Food Bank's Summer Feeding Program.
"One in four Oklahoma children are food insecure. As schools close for the summer, many children are left without their primary source of healthy food," Katie Fitzgerald, Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Food Bank, said. "No one, especially children, should ever have to worry about where their next meal will come from. Our partner agencies across the state are ready to fill the summer break gap."
