The 2019 Wings & Wheels Fly-In & Car Show will be held at the Chickasha Municipal Airport on Saturday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Father’s Day Weekend event will feature B-25 Bomber “Maid in the Shade,” a 1944 warbird flown mainly as a low altitude strafe and skip bomber in WWII. The Maid in the Shade is one of only 34 B-25J’s still flying, out of nearly 10,000 produced. Brought by the Arizona Commemorative Air Force, the plane will be available for photos, and those interested will have the opportunity to buy a seat on a flight in the Maid in the Shade.
For young aviation enthusiasts, local EAA volunteers will offer Young Eagles flights. These flights are complimentary for children ages 8-17, with a goal of inspiring kids in the world of aviation. Registration for Young Eagles flights begins at 8:30 a.m. with the first flight at 9 a.m. These flights will continue after the event, if needed.
Wings & Wheels attendees will have the opportunity to watch flight demonstrations, drone races and other contests, take photos with airplanes, and enjoy food from local food trucks. Admission to the family-friendly event is free.
Fly-in and car show participants are asked to arrive by 11 a.m. for registration. Awards will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Fly-in awards will be given for Best WarBird, Best Antique, Best RV and Best Homebuild, and car show awards will be given for Best in Show, First Runner Up and Second Runner Up.
The Chickasha Municipal Airport, located at 2344 Beechcraft Road, is approximately 2 miles north of Chickasha off Highway 81.
