The Flowers Lovers Federated Club

The Flowers Lovers Federated Club's main focus was on beautifying the community, according to the Loretta Y. Jackson African American Historical Society. This organization will be one of several featured at the upcoming Soul Food and Storytelling Evening on Feb. 8. 

The 11th Annual Soul Food and Storytelling Event celebrates African American culture in Chickasha and Grady County every February. 

This year, the event will feature the story of local African American organizations who have provided service to the community, according to the Loretta Y. Jackson, African American Historical Society. 

Featured organizations include: The Lucky Strike Men's Club, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Tuesday Evening Thimble Club and the Flower Lovers Federated Club. 

Derrick Dean will be this year's featured storyteller and Courtney Boone will be the featured singer. 

The Soul Food and Storytelling Evening will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 in the University of Science and Arts Ballroom located at 17th St. and Alabama Ave. in Chickasha. A donation of $20 will include a soul food meal. To reserve tickets, call Loretta Jackson at 405-224-5297. Deadline for reservations is Jan. 26. 

The program is in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation's Soulful Stories Initiative: "The African American Story in Oklahoma," according to the Loretta Y. Jackson African American Historical Society.
