School lunch

Summer vacation can be less relaxing for children with food insecurity.

Many families depend on free meals to keep children fed throughout the school year. Thanks to a volunteer program in Chickasha, area children can avoid going hungry during the summer months.

The 23rd Annual Summer Food and Fun Program begins on May 23 in the parking lot of the First Presbyterian Church at 428 S. 6th St. Any child attending school, from birth through age 18, will be served from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

For the next 10 weeks, children will receive a free bagged lunch, snacks to take home, a book and personal care items.

This program is funded through donations from the community, with all proceeds going to help feed local children. Volunteers help with preparations on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Volunteers also serve the children on Thursday morning.

Donations may be sent to the Summer Food and Fun Program, ℅ First Presbyterian Church, P.O. box 1284, Chickasha, OK, 73023. For more information, call the church at 405-224-6205.
