The City of Chickasha continues to work on repairing a large sinkhole caused by sewer line damage last week.
The sinkhole was much larger than it first appeared, according to David Buchanan, Chickasha Public Works Director.
He said when workers first began digging it became apparent pretty quickly that the damage was extensive below the surface and it is fortunate the highway held together. The roadway has been narrowed to one lane in the area of the sinkhole.
The repair is complicated by groundwater caused by the recent heavy rains. Buchanan said under normal circumstances the repair would be relatively easy. However, at this point it is impossible to put a projected timeline on when the sinkhole will be repaired.
