In spite of the cold, warm thanks were extended to Chickasha's Veterans on Monday.

The Annual Veterans Day Ceremony was held indoors at the Chickasha Elks Lodge due to low temperatures and gusty winds on Monday.

Veterans in attendance received a certificate of thanks for their service. A raffle was held distributing gift certificates from local businesses.

Lt. Col. Tom Rose, Retired Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart recipient was the guest speaker at the event. He said enlisting was not a tradition in his family. He served because he felt it was his duty. Rose, who considers himself a patriot, said he is concerned with a lack of patriotism in younger generations.

The Chickasha High School Steppin' Out Choir performed the National Anthem under the direction of Julie Pruitt. Mercedes HIll and Mikylah Whitehead performed "Taps" after Father Mike Wheelahan of Holy Name Catholic Church led the prayer.

Following the ceremony, the Chickasha Elks Lodge served lunch to all Veterans and guests.
