Chickasha Public Library to offer programs in September

The late summer and early fall heat is a great time for indoor, air-conditioned activities.

The Chickasha Public Library recently announced their September schedule for programs, activities and workshops.

Beginning Sept. 3, the library will host a Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance class, presented by the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative. This is a six week course which meets Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration is required. Call the library at 405-222-6075.

This month, Movie Night at the Library, held on the second Monday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. will feature a western. These movies are geared toward adults, with a PG or PG-13 rating, though there are no age restrictions, according to the Chickasha Public Library.

On Sept. 7, local residents can learn more about their family tree using the library's Ancestory.com Workshop, which will take place from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Space is limited due to the number of computers. Call the library to register.

Preschool Storytime will take place every Wednesday at 10 and 11 a.m. at the Chickasha Public Library. Storytime is for children 5-years-old and younger. Children will listen to stories, sing songs, make crafts and play games. A caregiver must accompany the child.

There is also an activity for older children on Wednesday afternoons. Beginning Sept. 4, Beyond the Shelf, a youth library club will meet every Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m. The club is for children ages 10 to 15. There will be different book discussions and activities each week.

Youth Game Night—which features both board games and video games—will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 13. This activity is for youth ages 7 and up. Attendees 8-years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics will give a presentation about drug use and abuse from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 26. According to the Chickasha Public Library, the presentation will highlight commonly used and abused drugs, side effects, paraphernalia, origin and more.

Art will meet literature for "A Bookish Event." The first workshop in this series will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.

"Participants are asked to create a work of art based on a passage from a book. Due to space limitations only a set number of participants will be able to participate. The public is invited to come and view the entries," according to a Chickasha Public Library release. Registration is required for this event.

The Chickasha Public Library is located at 527 W. Iowa Ave. To register for events, call the library at 405-222-6075.
