The Friends of the Chickasha Public Library invite the community to join them at their first of three Summer Luncheons on Thurs., June 20, 2019 from 11:30am-1:00pm at 415 W. Chickasha Ave. The event will be held in the dining area of the Grady County Historical Society, also recognized locally as The Dixie Building.
Reservations are required and due by Mon., June 17, 2019 at 5pm. Contact Angie at 405-779-6969 to make a reservation.
The luncheon cost is $10 and payable at the door. The delicious meal will feature a gourmet chicken salad on croissant, side salad, dessert, tea and water.
Author Eric Dabney will be the speaker at the luncheon. He was born and raised in Oklahoma and is a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma.
As a longtime researcher and editor for the award-winning author Bob Burke, Eric spent more than two decades rediscovering his home state over kitchen-table interviews and the family photo albums of many of Oklahoma’s favorite sons and daughters, including Gary England, Abe Lemons, Jane Jayroe, and George Nigh.
Mr. Dabney was a favorite professor in the Education Department at the University of Central Oklahoma where he shared his love of reading with many students and future teachers.
Today, he is the co-author of several books, including Fearless Flight: The Amazing Adventures of Wiley Post; Historic Carter County; and Oklahoma: A Story Through Her People.
Mr. Dabney serves as a public school teacher and elementary school librarian in Edmond. He was a finalist for Edmond Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year in 2018.
The remaining Friends of the Library summer luncheons will be held on July 18 and August 15 at ‘The Dixie’.
