Fire Marshal investigating house explosion in Verden

A man died in a house fire in Verden on Sunday evening.

At the time of this report, the man has not been named, but he was the owner of the property at 314 on Highway 62, according to Verden Fire Chief, Michael McLane.

The Oklahoma State Fire Marshal began investigating the incident on Monday morning. The cause of the fire as well as the man's death are not clear at this time.

The fire may have started in the garage and spread to the walls and attic of the house, he said. It is possible that something may have exploded but it is too early to say what the item may have been. It is unclear if the item had a role in the fire or the man's death.

The garage of the roof collapsed during the blaze. There is also water, heat and smoke damage to the home, however it is unknown how extensive the damage may be.

McLane said there were no other injuries sustained in the fire, as some media outlets have reported.
