The Chickasha Area Arts Council (CAAC) invites the community to attend its first art show of the fall season.
The ‘John Bruce Art Show’ take place on Sept. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the 7th Street Art Connection, 1301 S. 7th Street, home of the Chickasha Area Arts Council.
Dr. John Bruce of Chickasha, Oklahoma is Professor of Language and Literature at University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO). His paintings can be categorized as abstracted and minimalistic landscapes in which he explores the intersection of color and texture.
Dr. Bruce is a native of San Mateo, California. After graduating from San Mateo High School in 1979, he enrolled at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California, where he earned a B.A. in journalism in 1983.
Bruce then worked as a newspaper reporter at a weekly newspaper in Brentwood, California. A year later, he landed his first job as a reporter on a daily newspaper, in Harlingen, Texas. Additional stops as a newspaper reporter were made in Texas over the next several years, including Wichita Falls, Corpus Christi, and McAllen.
In 1991, Bruce began graduate school at University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg (now University of Texas Rio Grande Valley). He earned an M.A. in English there in 1994. Bruce then enrolled at University of Glasgow in Glasgow, Scotland, and ultimately earned a Ph.D. in English Literature from that institution in 2000.
He joined the faculty of USAO in 1998. Dr. Bruce has exhibited paintings and sculptural work in multiple shows over the last several years in Oklahoma and New Mexico.
