Area youth will have a chance to get a a bird's eye view of aviation this summer.
A Half Day Aviation Camp will be held in July at Chickasha Wings Flight School, located at the Chickasha Municipal Airport.
Campers will learn about the basic fundamentals of flight including the four forces of flight, with emphasis on drag, Christy Self, Aviation Camp Coordinator, said.
There will be experiments with paper airplanes and balloons as well as hula hoop and/or glider throw contests. Students will also learn about parts of an airplane, reading a VFR sectional chart and more.
Campers will be able to sit in a plane such as a Cessna 172, to see how the controls work.
Weather permitting, an optional discovery flight will take campers to the skies. A waiver must be signed at registration, Self said.
Last year, the camp had about 80 youth in attendance, with about 20 campers per session.
Campers may participate on either July 8 or July 15. First through fourth graders will attend the camp between 8 a.m. and noon. Fifth graders through eighth graders will attend the camp in the afternoon between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Cost is $35 if paid in advance and $40 at the door. Students can be preregistered by calling Chickasha Wings at 405-224-8359. There are a limited number of spots, Self said.
