The Chickasha Board of Education recently approved increasing substitute teacher pay across the board going into effect immediately.
Previously non-certified teachers who wanted to be substitutes were payed $51 a day and the board approved an increase to $65 a day.
Substitute teachers who have their teacher certifications were getting $61 a day and that was increased to $75 a day to match area schools.
Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Cindy Schmidt said this was a positive thing for Chickasha Public Schools and will make it more competitive for teachers.
In other action of the monthly Board of Education meeting a report was given that Chickasha Students ACT scores were above the state average this past year.
Laura Martin, Board Clerk for Chickasha Public Schools said that the scores are higher than in years past according to records and is continuing the upward trend.
The board also approved its list of dates in 2018 for the monthly meetings and they will continue to hold the meetings on the second Tuesday of each month.
Also, passed in the October monthly meeting was the notification of election for seat three of the Chickasha School Board.
Currently the seat is occupied by Julie Badgett Sinn with her term expiring in 2018 and the election will be held Feb. 13, 2018 if an opponent is drawn.
Chickasha School Board of Education will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Chickasha Administration Building located at 900 W. Choctaw Avenue.
