A fire at The Palms Apartments on Sunday has left about 40 people without homes.

Chickasha Fire Chief Brian Zalewski said the call for the fire came in about 1:15 a.m. on Sunday. Fire agencies stayed on scene until the scene was cleared around 9 a.m. later that morning.

Zalewski said the fire started in a mechanical room behind the laundry area. The apartment complex has been shut down for the time being. Zalewski said agencies will be taking the opportunity to investigate electrical issues at The Palms.

There were three apartments damaged by the fire and 10 damaged by smoke. The roof over two apartments had significant structural damage.

There have been no injuries reported at this time.
