Tigers, Bulldogs open Minco tourney

— The Verden Tigers and Minco Bulldogs were among the teams playing on day one of the Bulldog Classic tournament in Minco on Monday.

The Verden boys and girls both advanced with first-round wins, and the Minco boys moved to the consolation bracket with a loss to Union City.

The Verden High School girls basketball team beat Bray-Doyle High School 46-31 in the first game of the tournament.

The Lady Tigers are 3-4 after the win, and will play the winner of the game between the Minco Lady Bulldogs and Geary at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Minco and Geary played at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Verden High School boys basketball team beat Bray-Doyle 70-46 in the next game.

The Tigers advanced to 5-2, and will play the winner of the game between Maud and Apache at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The Minco High School boys basketball team lost 51-37 to Union City in the last game of the opening day of the tournament.

The Bulldogs are now 1-2. They will play the loser of the game between Riverside and Geary at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The Apache High School girls basketball team beat Union City 68-40 in Monday's other game.

The Bulldog Classic began Monday will continue Thursday with semifinal games at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. (girls) and consolation semifinal games at 4 and 7 p.m. for the boys. The tournament will also have games on Friday and conclude on Saturday.
