Chicks on leaps and bounds ahead of meet

CHICKASHA —

Chickasha hosts its track meet Tuesday on the back of another solid weekend.

Results from the Comanche meet on Saturday showed improved times and distances again, but this time by a bit more than expected.

"Times are coming down by seconds, not just tenths," head coach Nancy Waters said. "That is what we need now, getting ready for the regional meet."

The Chickasha girls placed second overall at the Comanche meet. Hannah Fergason took first in long jump for the second week running with a jump of 16' 10". She also finished fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.47 seconds.

Tawn Neidy took second in the pole vault at 7' 6", while Kori Smith finished fourth in the 100 meter dash in 12.84 seconds.

The relay teams also had a solid outing. Smith and Neidy joined Jaycie Brown and Ivy McPherson to finish first in the 400 relay with a time of 51.70 seconds. Hannah Fergason, Brown, Neidy and Smith also took first in the 800 meter relay in 1:50.56.

Neidy, Brown, Fergason and Shantel Hayden finished with a time of 4:34.72 to take third in the 1600 meter relay.

But the Chickasha teams face a tough test, with many Class 6A teams coming out for Tuesday's meet, Waters said. It all starts at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Stadium and running events begin shortly after at 9:45 a.m.
