Candidates file for local, state races


Many candidates filed for state and county offices in Oklahoma yesterday.

The filing period for county offices ends Friday at 5 p.m., according to a press release from the Grady County Election Board.

In Grady County, Republican Bari Firestone filed to run for county assessor, Republican Robin Burton filed to run for county treasurer, Republican Windle Hardy filed for District 1 county commissioner, and Democrat Ralph Beard filed for District 3 county commissioner.

District Attorney Jason Hicks is currently the only candidate filed to run for  District 6 Attorney, serving Grady County, according to

At the state level, Sen. Jim Inhofe filed for reelection as a U.S. senator to one of two available senate seats, against Jean McBride-Samuels and Erick Paul-Wyatt  on the republican side, and Ray Woods running as an independent.

Jason Weger, University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma professor Kevin Crow and Eric McCray are running forTom Coburn's vacated senate seat on the Republican side, with Connie Johnson running on the democratic side.

Former Speaker TW Shannon and District 5 Representative James Lankford both formally announced their intention to run for Coburn's seat, which comes with two term years remaining.

For state representative in district 4, which includes Chickasha, Republican Tom Cole filed for re-election with Democrat Tae Si running against him.
