BLOG: It's time for the city to fully fund a neuter program

CHICKASHA —

Chickasha has a big city problem.

It'd be hard to dispute that stray animals roam the town's streets in droves. They occupy neighborhoods, school yards, business locations, basically anywhere they might find some nosh.

Typically cities of Chickasha's size aren't plagued by this problem. Sadly we are, and given that the paper get calls on a semi-regular basis asking us to report on this problem - we have at length by the way - I think it's time the city fully funded a spay and neuter program.

It's expensive and it's irritating, but it's also crucially necessary. It's the only surefire way to cut down on the four legged vagabonds.

This really is the only fair solution in regards to adoptions too.

If a city is going to require adopters to neuter their animals, the then incentivized services need to be provided.

The city council has begun preliminary discussions on next year's budget. Obviously the money donated and allocated for this last year wasn't enough and this topic will most certainly come up, but I'm worried it will not be handled correctly moving forward.
