A man was arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse with a dangerous weapon on Feb. 18 after allegedly striking his roommate with a broom handle.
William Barbeau told Chickasha Police Officer Gillian Rainey that he woke up to his roommate, Michael Shon Downes, yelling at him because he thought he had a ride to Walmart from their landlord, according to a police affidavit.
Downes allegedly became very angry and struck Barbeau with a broom handle multiple times, Rainey said.
"Barbeau had several whelps on his left forearm and elbow, which were red and swollen….He also had an area on the inside bicep of his left arm and on the left side of his back that were red, swollen and bruising. Barbeau' s injuries were consistent with being struck with a broom handle," Rainey said. "Barbeau was taken to the ER for treatment of his injuries."
When Rainey went to the house to speak with Downes, he refused to open the door, so Barbeau gave Rainey permission to enter.
Rainey said he was unable to question Downes because he was too intoxicated at the time.
Downes was later arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse with a dangerous weapon.
