Unopposed Ross will remain Chickasha's mayor

Yesterday marked the deadline to register for Chickasha municipal elections, which yielded another term for Mayor Hank Ross.

This will be the fifth election Ross has run in, and in each race he has run unopposed.

The position for Ward 1 Council Member will feature a race between Executive Director of  the Oklahoma State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers Chris Ferguson, and retired 23-year military veteran and part-time Chickasha High School Tennis Coach Gary Kuykendall.

The position is left vacant by Vice Mayor J.E. Epperson, who is not seeking reelection.

Ward 4 has a showdown between incumbent Howard Carpenter and retired Gabriel Ride Control Products employee Charlie Helm.

Ward 2 Council Member Blake Elliot is running unopposed and will retain his seat.

Ward 3 Council Member Ryan Posey will not seek reelection. Local educator and NAACP Director Dr. Ashanti Alexander is running unopposed for the position left vacant by Posey.

The municipal elections will take place March 4.
