Filer, Stringer among local players to commit on Signing Day

CHICKASHA —

Many schools across the state will see off their top football players today, as National Signing Day comes to Grady schools.

TJ Filer is expected to sign with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M today as the only Chickasha player so far to commit. Filer is coming off a season where he had to switch from his linebacker position, but still led the Fightin' Chicks defense in a solid year.

"As the season went on, he got better and better at that new defensive end position," head coach Tom Cobble said. "He really grew into it, and by mid-to-late season, he was playing really well. He's always been a leader, especially with this senior class."

Filer will join former Fightin' Chick Jacoby Brown, who is currently wrestling at NEO in Miami. Two other Chickasha players, defensive lineman Oron Bowman and quarterback/deep back Cade Morris, have yet to make decisions about continuing to play in college.

Filer will be joined at NEO by Blanchard standouts Jalan Daniels and Zach Owen. Lions head coach Jeff Craig confirmed the duo are expected to commit there tomorrow, but their teammate Braden Stringer will be going to a D-II school.

Stringer is expected to sign for Arkansas Tech University, which plays in the Great American Conference along with Southeastern Oklahoma State, Southwestern Oklahoma State and East Central University. Stringer racked up over 5,302 rushing yards and 73 touchdowns on five carries last season when Blanchard just fell short of a repeat Class 3A state title win.

A knee injury suffered in the last game of the season has not deterred Minco's Jacob Overton, who will sign for Oklahoma Baptist University today at 11 a.m. Overton was recently named to the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association All State team as a running back.
